roles of a safety diver

Fuvahmulah offers year-round tiger shark encounters, making safety the top priority on every dive. A tiger shark safety diver briefs participants, reads ocean conditions, and maintains correct up-current positioning to manage shark movement and minimise risk. Clear communication with guides and strict adherence to procedures are essential.

Because tiger sharks are wild animals, recognising behavioural changes is critical for making safe decisions underwater. Responsibilities continue after the dive through debriefings and by raising awareness of the vital role sharks play in healthy marine ecosystems.

Throughout the course, students will learn to:

  • Read and interpret tiger shark behaviour, from approach patterns to social interactions.

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of divers and safety divers during shark dives.

  • Build core knowledge of tiger shark biology

  • Navigate human–shark interactions

  • Explore key conservation challenges and the role of responsible shark diving
